Dîner en Blanc is returning to Montreal on August 14!

The 6th edition of the highly sought after Dîner en Blanc de Montreal will take place on Thursday, August 14, 2014, from 7 to 11 p.m. For one evening, more than 5,500 friends, foodies, and fashion and cultural enthusiasts, all dressed in white, will gather in one location, kept secret until the last minute, to picnic and dance under the stars. The goal: providing guests with the opportunity to reclaim, for one evening, a part of their heritage by promoting it through their simple presence and elegance.

Register BEFORE July 14 at 10 a.m.
People who wish to partake for the first time in the unique experience that is Dîner en Blanc can add their name to the waiting list on the Dîner en Blanc website no later than July 14 at 10 a.m.: montreal.dinerenblanc.info/register
A limited number of places (approximately 1,000) will be offered to people on the waiting list through an e-mail invitation on Thursday, July 14, at noon.

A “Secret” Organization
Thousands of attendees from all parts of the Greater Montreal area will cross the city to reach one of the 25 gathering points, bringing with them tables, folding chairs and picnic baskets. These groups of 250 to 300 people will be taking the subway at the same time, or board a bus to one of the city’s most beautiful locations, kept secret until their arrival.

At exactly 7 p.m., a white wave will flood the selected location. With the help of hundreds of volunteers, guests are escorted to the exact spot where their table is to be set up. In a matter of 30 minutes, in an apparent joyful chaos, each attendee quickly finds their spot and the dinner can finally commence. The waving of napkins symbolizing “site occupation” marks the beginning of the dinner. Attendees savor the refined meal they have ordered or prepared themselves. Elegance, friendliness and manners are prerequisites of this chic picnic. “The success of Dîner en Blanc is due to a number of things,” explains Aymeric Pasquier, the organizer of Dîner en Blanc de Montreal. Firstly, everyone is actively involved in the event; they prepare their event weeks ahead of time. This preparation, although sometimes tedious when attending the event for the first time, gives attendees a sense of accomplishment that they would not get from any other event where everything is included. Each attendee must bring tables, chairs, champagne and wine, cook their best meal, and find the most beautiful white clothing to distinguish themselves from their neighbor... Instead of being a spectator, they all become actors in the event.”

After dinner, sparklers are lit, signaling the opening of the dance floor. This is one of the most spectacular moments of the evening. A DJ will take over and invite thousands of guests to dance.

A Montreal Success Story
Dîner en Blanc – Paris, which is at the origin of this global phenomenon, is celebrating 26 years of history in the making. The event experienced an “explosion” on the international front, three years ago. Approximately fifty existing Dîner en Blancs across the world are now part of a single network managed by Dîner en Blanc International head quartered in Montreal, Canada.
Sydney, New York, Singapore, London, Los Angeles, Kigali, Stockholm and Haiti are among the fifty cities, which now carry on the Parisian tradition in all five continents.
