Ukpöng “Mr. Pöng” Etang

Ukpöng “Mr. Pöng” Etang is an artist like you’ve never seen or heard before! His instrument of choice is the Steelpan, originating from the twin islands of Trinidad & Tobago.
This creative musician started playing the Piano at age seven and was introduced to the Steelpan at age nine. After years of honing his skills in a Steelband setting with Salah's Steelpan Academy, Ukpöng decided he wanted to take a try at performing as a soloist in the metros of Montreal, for commuters. It's through his experiences performing underground in the subways that "Mr. Pöng" came to be and an entrepreneurial venture was born!
Today, Mr. Pöng is self-employed, performing at gigs throughout the city. He has also performed in Ottawa, Toronto, and Boston! He still plays in the metros when he can because sharing his passion for the Steelpan, with as many people as possible, is very important to him! He feels privileged to be a part of the movement for the advancement and celebration of the Steelpan community at large, and takes this very seriously! You might be lucky enough to catch him performing at your next private function, corporate event, community gathering or wedding! He is always expanding his repertoire of songs and genres to cover. That said, he is more than a cover artist! Be on the lookout for
collaborations with other artists as well as his first original project in the near future!
